Your skin needs a quick boost, but don’t have time to get yourself to the spa. trust me, I’ve been there. Still, I believe facials are an important part to maintaining a healthy complexion. Usually, I try to get a professional facial every two or so months. Yet after having my baby, balancing work and home has not been easy and finding time to go to a facial seems like a feat. Not only are they time intensive, they can also cost a pretty penny. My solution?  I do a mini facial at home that gets the job done using items I can find right in my kitchen. You can try these steps at home to give your face an instant glow too!

STEP 1: CLEANSE YOUR SKIN – Begin by wetting your face with warm water. Place a teaspoon of raw honey into your hands and rub together (this allows for the honey to spread better). Then massage onto face in a circular motion. For a deep pore cleanse, leave it on for 10-15 minutes otherwise, wash off with warm water and pat dry.

WHY? –  Honey has natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which helps fight bacteria and calm skin irritations. Great for those who suffer acne or have sensitive reactive skin. Full of antioxidants and healing compounds, honey can slow the signs of aging, moisturize and increase tissue regeneration. It is also gentler than soapy cleansers and does not strip skin of its natural oils.

STEP 2: EXFOLIATE & BRIGHTEN – Squeeze the juice (about one teaspoon) from a fresh lemon and pat onto skin. Leave on for about 10 to 15 minutes and rinse off. Some may find Lemon a little intense instead, try using the juice of an orange.

WHY? Citrus fruits are naturally high in vitamin C, excellent for assisting in removing dead skin cells and brightening skin. Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant for neutralizing free radicals and boosting collagen production. This means it can lighten dark spots, age spots, and scars. Lemon is also incredible as a blackhead treatment and can aid in the prevention of breakouts.

STEP 3: DEEP TREAT YOUR SKIN – In a small bowl, combine one teaspoon of turmeric powder with a dollop of full-fat yogurt. Apply onto face, carefully avoiding the area close to the eyes. Let sit for about 20 – 30 minutes.

WHY? Yogurt contains lactic acid, which can tighten pores, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and exfoliate skin. It can also rejuvenate and soften skin. Turmeric is excellent for balancing the skin, especially for the oily skin types. Good for sensitive skin, it can be incredibly calming while providing nourishment to strengthen skin. Turmeric also helps to even out the complexion. The combination of these powerhouse ingredients will leave your face supple, soft and glowing.

STEP 4: NOURISH YOUR SKIN – Use a warm washcloth and press onto skin. Repeat this 3 times. When skin is still slightly damp, massage in organic olive oil or coconut oil. Beginning at the neck, massage moving in upward strokes. ALWAYS massage in an upward fashion. Let it penetrate, and you’re ready to go!

WHY? These oils are incredibly moisturizing and necessary to seal in all the benefits. Plant based oils are high in antioxidants and are nutrition rich. Oils mimic the skin’s sebum which aids in nourishing, protecting, and retaining moisture. Massaging skin stimulates circulation, beneficial to helping boost collagen production, lift sagging skin and lessen the appearance of wrinkles.

All my best,
